General Store

Creative Tuesday - Store Front

I think I prefer the black and white version, as the sky in the colored painting is too dark for my taste. I usually do a pale wash for background, but I have noticed that when I scan my finished product some of the color fades and, as a result, the sky looks almost white. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

At any rate, I made an effort to really blue that ol' sky this time but now I think that I overdid it. Oh well. What's done is done...at least as far as this week's contribution is concerned.

I loved the topic this week; buildings are fun.

See what else is happening at Mr. Toast's Creative Tuesday.

  1. Janice, that's funny, because i knew you;d like he theme. never forgot that building in the woods for short and tall. So well done as is this. I love them both. Yes, light blues are hard for scanners to pick up. It is so easy to go too dark on skies too. As it is, I love the red of the store and i agree that there is a sharp sketchy feel to the BW version too. I will show them both. GREAT job. you relaly knocked yourself out again. TY. :)

  3. A General Store is such a perfect pick for store front theme.

Love the detail, the color, and that little kiten waiting for the owner to come out with a saucer of milk.

Like the b&w too. both delightful!

  4. Great job Janice. I like them both too. If you are like me I have so much art around I have not idea what to do with it. Sometimes I do one subject 5 or 6 times and all different for sure.

  5. Fabulous job on both pictures. I think the blue sky gives it drama. Love the little cat waiting patiently.

  6. I love your general store... oh those were the days... it's mainly horrid convenient supermarkets... our general store when I was growing up, was called Mr Wibbly's... he was a wonderful man, his shop always smelt of chocolate and tobacco and polished wood...

  8. oooh, I love this building! I love good old-fashioned general stores!
Your sky looks great against the red, but I know what you mean, watercolors just look so light, too on my scanner.
Great details, in this one, too!
    have a great night!

  11. I like the blue sky. I think the shade is goes well with the house but I do like the black and white better somehow. it seem to have that old-fashion feeling to it.

  12. A lovely old general store! I have trouble with the scanner changing my colors on some things, too. Sometimes fiddling with the gamma setting of the scanner program helps.
